Mineral Oil can be
used as a laxative. It will lubricate the colon and help soften hardened feces. Recipe: for a 2 quart enema Mix 8 fluid Ounces of mineral oil with 1½ quarts of warm filtered water. You will probably find it difficult to keep the oil and water mixed, as the oil has a lighter viscosity than the water it has a tendency to float to the top. It would be better to have a partner with this type of enema as they can stir the solution to keep it mixed as the enema is injected. A better way to take a mineral oil enema is to use a bulb syringe and an enema bag. Fill the bulb syringe with warm mineral oil. Fill the enema bag with 2qts.of warm water. Hang enema bag approximately 18 to 24 in. above the rectum. The best position for this enema is the knee chest position but there are other positions. You can squirt a tiny amount of oil onto the anus to lubricate it. Or you can lubricate the anus first with some Vaseline. Now insert the bulb syringe nozzle into the rectum and inject the warm mineral oil. Next insert the enema nozzle from the enema bag and inject the warm water. Using an oil enema could cause you to leak oil from your anus for several hours. If this occurs you can take a soapsuds enema or two, to remove the oil. Remember use a warm water rinse enema to reduce the soap residue Mineral Oil can be taken orally as a laxative Indications: For relief of occasional constipation. Generally produces a bowel movement in 6 to 8 hours when taken orally. Directions: Adults and children over 12 years, 1 to 3 tablespoonfuls. Other types of oil that can be used in enemas. |
