More than one enema is often used in an enema series cleansing procedure.

During an enema series cleansing process the recipient will take and release several enemas one after the other.
Normally a warm 2 qt. soaps suds enema is the first enema given in this process to purge the large intestine
of the larger fecal masses.
Then two or three larger volume warm water enemas are given to rinse out the soap, mucus and toxins that adheres to the colon wall causing irritation.
Normally after one of these enema series the entire large intestine should be clean.

Many times after a cleansing enema series a retention enema is given to help replace lost beneficial bacteria, electrolytes and minerals.
