enema used for cleaning colons with enemas

Many of us remember hearing those fateful words from our mother telling us
"It's time for your enema"

Back in the '1940s '50s and even the '60s enemas were a common practice in the home.
A simple cure for constipation and the all-around cure for the
tummyache. Many bowel problems were solved with a simple warm water clyster. Many a bad attitude or disobedience was adjusted with a spanking and hot soap suds enemas.
Unfortunately the use enemas as a home remedy have decreased to where they're almost unknown except for occasional use in hospitals.

When is the most beneficial time to use enemas?
That would be when you are coming down with a cold or flu.
But it is probably the hardest time to take one because you don't feel up to it.

An enema is the cleansing of the colon or large intestine. It involves the injection of a solution into the rectum to soften the feces, distend the colon and rectum, and thereby cause the easy emptying of the bowel.
During the administration of the treatment, you will be asked to lie on your left side, with the right leg flexed. This position will enable the solution to flow easily into the colon. The solution most commonly used is a mixture of mild soap & approximately 2 quarts of warm water that is placed in a container or fountain syringe  with a flexible tube and nozzle. The tube end or nozzle will be lubricated and inserted into the rectum about 4 to 6 inches, after which the soap solution will be slowly administered. Administering the liquid slowly helps to minimize discomfort.

Enemas produce a peristaltic action in the large intestine that
push against the fecal material, which produces pressure in the rectum
to cause expulsion of feces.

Enemas fill the colons daily throughout the world Water flowed from the gourds of medicine men and women into the bowels of the ancients as it still does today. The euphoria that commonly follows a good enema and the level of health that accompanies good elimination is known now as then. Using anal/rectal stimulation and pleasure requires understanding the body and understanding the use of ENEMAS.

There are many different types of enemas. By distending the rectum, all enemas (even the simplest type, the tap water enema) stimulate the colon to contract and eliminate stool. Other types of enemas have additional mechanisms of action. For example, saline enemas cause water to be drawn into the colon. Phosphate enemas stimulate the muscles of the colon. Mineral oil enemas lubricate and soften hard stool. Emollient enemas contain agents that soften the stool.

Enemas are particularly useful when there is rectal impaction, which is hardening of stool in the rectum. In order to be effective, the instructions that come with the enema should be followed. This requires full application of the enema, appropriate positioning before and after the enema is instilled, retain the enema for several minutes or until a desperate need to evacuate occurs.
