| An enema is
the introduction of fluid into the rectum and colon (large intestine). Enemas are given to clean feces or waste material from the lower bowel or for medical reasons. or in some cases to stimulate erotic feelings, enemas can be very stimulating and erotic for many people. (It is usually best to administer an Enema at the same time daily) Recommended amounts of enema solution: Most people can tolerate a 1 to2 qts. of enema solution relatively easily. This can be as much as 3 plus quarts at one time during an enema series or depending upon the tolerance of the recipient. Coffee enemas can also be an excellent cleansing procedure. |
| Hypnotic saline solution is recommended for
all enemas: Mix one level teaspoon of Sea Salt with 4 cups (32 ounces) 1 QUART of warm filtered water (103°Fahrenheit, 37°centigrade) |
EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES
| 1.
A clean enema bag with tubing
and enema nozzle/rectal
tube. 2. Lubricant: KY jelly, Vaseline, Astro glide 3. LargeThick towel 4. 2 quart measuring container (to hold extra enema solution) |
PREPARING TO GIVE an ENEMA
| 1.
Explain to the recipient why you are giving the enema. Explain to them that they may feel like they may need to go to the bathroom while the solution is flowing in. If this happens, you should stop the flow and have the them take slow deep breathes in and out through their mouth to help relieve this feeling. When this feeling eases, then resume the enema. 2.Place a towel on the bed or floor under there hips. 3.Have the them lie on the left side with right leg flexed toward there chest. They may also on their back for 1/3 of the solution, left side for 1/3 of the solution and right side for 1/3 of solution, or the knee chest position which is probably the best position for receiving an enema. |
HOW TO GIVE THE ENEMA
| 1.
Clamp the tubing . Remove cap from tip if it has one. 2. Lubricate the several inches of the rectal tube. 3. Pour the amount of solution as directed by your health-care provider into the bag. 4. Unclamp the tubing and allow a small amount of the solution to run into the measuring container. (this is to allow the air to escape the tubing) . Injecting air into the colon causes cramping. 5. Test the solution by dripping a few drops on the inside of your wrist. It should feel warm 103°F, not hot. 6. Clamp the tubing and gently insert the end of the rectal tube into the recipients anus. At an angle pointing towards the navel. (If there is any resistance when inserting the tip or the solution, carefully withdraw the tip and try a different angle. This procedure is made easier if you use a good lubricant such as. KY jelly, Vaseline, Astro glide If you continue to have difficulty, discontinue the procedure and talk to your health-care provider.) 7. Hold or hang the enema bag about 18 to 24" above the there hips. Allow solution to run into rectum slowly (about 100 ml/per min). If the solution starts to leak out of the rectum, briefly squeeze the buttocks firmly together around the tube. 8. If cramping occurs, they may tell you it hurts. To reduce the cramping, shut off the flow of solution for a few seconds by pinching the tubing together then continue at a slower flow rate. 9. When all the solution has finished, clamp the tubing and remove it from the there rectum. 10. Ask them to remain in the same position until the urge to release the solution is very strong. (Try to have them hold it 5 or 10 minutes) 11. If they have a hard time retaining the solution you can fold a paper towel or wash cloth and press it firmly against their anus and hold it there until you are ready for them to expel the enema. |
AFTER THE ENEMA
| Have the
recipient sit on the toilet to release the solution.
You can check what type of bowel movement he or she had (hard, formed, runny) (Most if not all of the enema solution should be released) The expulsion of all the enema solution should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. |
